Diamond Colour

Have you ever heard the expression “white diamond”? This refers to a really clear, white diamond colour with no dark or yellow areas, in other words, a pure diamond.

Colour is really important when selecting a diamond and there are lots of different shades, ranging from D to Z. The less colour a diamond has in it, the better quality stone. The colour of a diamond is far more important than size. A small stone graded D is more valuable than a large stone with an L graded colour. When choosing your perfect diamond, you should take this into consideration.

28 Diamonds Guidelines to Diamond Colour

  • Diamond colour is graded from D to Z, D being the best possible colour you can buy and the most expensive. Z is the worst you can buy and is generally brown or dark yellow.
  • Other good quality grades are E, F, G and H as they are almost colourless but they will have some colour in them. You won’t be able to see the colour, you can only see it with a professional diamond magnifier. A high-graded diamond will be more expensive than a low-graded stone.
  • A clear diamond sparkles much more than a stone with colour.
  • Lower grades include J and I, these stones are almost colourless but they do have some colour visible by the human eye if examined closely. They are less expensive stones.
  • Other grades from M to Z will have visible colour, becoming more noticeable as you travel down the grading scale.
